High speed railway bridge sections used dampers to control movement at expansion joints during earthquake and train braking events. Analysis determined relative movements and stresses within the rails under earthquake loading as well nonlinear soil-structure analysis determined stresses in piles and pile caps. A total of 34 viscous fluid dampers were used in this application.
